Saint Anne's Church

art and monuments

This church was the meeting place for all the believers living near the castle. Its position in the village was very different if compared to the actual situation.
It seems that people entered it through two circular flights of stairs, attached to the pavement of the nearby little square, named “Sant’Anna”.
In 1624 Saint Anne's Congregation was founded and it grew in importance century by century.
In XIX century, when the congregation had about 400 members, the presbytery was enlarged.
The church is formed by a unique hall and only one nave. Inside, it is simple and bare. On the sides, there are two altars. In the left one, you can admire a wooden statue of Saint Peter (XVI century), coming from Crucifix’s church. The roof of the hall is made up of barrel vaults, recently whitened. The entrance is covered by a choir, which has been recently restored and paved. Through the choir, it is possible to reach the belfry. In the presbytery there is a painting of the Virgin of the Lamp, of XVIII century.
